Burkina Faso and Mali reaffirm their desire for a lasting

Malian Prime Minister Choguel Maïga’s visit to Burkina Faso ended on Sunday 26 February. Participation in the opening ceremony of Fespaco, joint government council, audience with the president of the transition, sectoral meetings between the various ministers… The delegation’s schedule was heavy. In particular, security and the fight against terrorism, humanitarian aid, health, regional cooperation and sanctions against the two countries were discussed.

Choguel Maiga, the Prime Minister of Mali, and Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambela, the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, called for a synergy of actions to fight effectively against terrorism, by combining efforts with other countries in the sub-region. During the visit of the first to the country of honest men, Burkina Faso and Mali signed a cooperation agreement in this direction.

The two Prime Ministers especially deplored maintaining and tightening ECOWAS sanctions (Economic Community of West African States) against their two countries, despite their plea. They believe that these sanctions do not take into account the deep realities of their country and make people suffer.

Burkina Faso and Mali have also agreed to deepen reflection on the federation project between them and Guinea. An idea that had been launched by the head of the Burkinabè government on February 1 during his trip to the Malian capital.

The two delegations agreed to strengthen the Bamako-Ouagadougou axis, in order to make it a model of successful integration and South-South cooperation. Choguel Maïga and Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambela also wanted the joint government council to be held alternately every six months.
