It was the military detachment and volunteers for the defense of the homeland (VDP), located 15 kilometers from Ouahigouya, which was the target of this attack. Their base is located at the city airfield.
According to the governor of the region, the assault took place on Saturday afternoon, around 4 p.m. local time. Soldiers and VDP “were surprised by heavy weapon fire, as they returned from mission”, underlines a source on the spot.
This attack comes as the Burkinabè armed forces have launched a vast operation in the Boucle du Mouhoun region, which adjoins that of the North.
