It wasn’t a great match, but a good result. If the first leg last Thursday was spectacular (4-1)delighting the supporters, the return was minimalist. But oh so enough to delight the Burkina players who qualified for the 13th time at the African Cup of Nations.
A header from Mohamed Konaté from a corner in the fifth minute was enough to give his team the victory and the ticket to CAN 2025in Morocco.
Brama Traoré’s men had great difficulty controlling the match against a team fortunately limited in their offensive intentions. It must be said that compared to the first leg, the Burkinabè coach had decided to leave his pillars on the bench like Dango Ouattara, author of a double in the first leg, captain Bertrand Traoré, or striker Lassina Traoré. This undoubtedly affected the fluidity of the play of the Stallions who had given a recital four days ago.
But Burkina was realistic and above all solid in countering the rare opposing attacks, even allowing themselves to miss the break goal several times before concluding with a penalty from Bertrand Traoré in stoppage time (90+4).
With ten points, Burkina keeps the lead in Group L and can no longer be joined by Burundi (3rd, 3 points) and Malawi (4th, 0 points). Two days before the end of the qualifiers, the Stallions only have first place in the group to go for, certainly, against Senegal.
