It was in the fifth century that Saint Genevieve erected a church on the supposed site of the tomb of Saint-Denis, the first bishop of Paris. Then, in the 7th century, Dagobert chose it as a burial place for his family. It was from Saint-Louis that it became the necropolis of the Kings of France. Located in the center of the city of Saint-Denis, it had the status of cathedral of the diocese of Saint-Denis in 1966.
