Burford warehouse proposal moving ahead

A warehouse, wholesale operation and public storage development is proposed for 369 Maple Ave. S. in Burford.

Councillors, at a Tuesday planning and development committee meeting, voted in favor of a zoning change to allow the proposal to move forward. Their recommendation is expected to be approved at a March 22 meeting of county council.

Plans call for two existing buildings at the rear of the 0.39 hectare property to be renovated and used for warehousing, public storage and a kitchen and bathroom wholesaling operation geared to commercial developers.

The rest of the property will be used for public storage units.

The property is on the west side of Maple Avenue South, north of Melissa Avenue and south of Rutherford Street. There are homes to the east and south of the property and industry is located to the west, councilors were told.

The development is being proposed by 2759953 Ontario Inc. and was brought to council by MHBC Planning.

Although a lighting plan for the development hasn’t yet been developed, Trevor Hawkins, of MHBC Planning, said the objective is to minimize any glare on adjacent properties.

In response to a question, Hawkins said the development aims to balance safety on the site with sky-friendly lighting.

While the wholesale operation and warehouse will operate during normal business hours, Hawkins said those who rent storage units will have access to their property at any time. However, he said access to the property will be controlled by way of a pass.
