Bungie summarizes what’s coming to Destiny 2 and the Episodes in Year 10

The tenth year of Destiny 2 will be shaped by the episodes. Bungie has now summarized how things will continue along this path.

Where does the information come from? The British computer game magazine Edge conducted an interview with Robbie Stevens (Game Director of Destiny 2), Ben Wommack (Combat Area Lead) and Catarina Macedo (was Project Lead for the expansions of Destiny until June 28, 2024). In this interview, Bungie summarized the future of Destiny 2.

The online magazine gamesradar has collected the information from the magazine and summarized it online.

What was said in the interview? In the interview, Bungie talks about the development of Destiny 2 in years 10 and 11. Some of the information has been known since the episodes were introduced in early June, while others provide new insights and details about the future of the loot shooter – especially the episodes.

These are the highlights of the interview:

  • The Prismatic subclass and the new Abomination enemy type are set to remain in Destiny
  • Ben Wommack explains that Bungie is currently considering a lot of ideas about how to proceed with Prismatic and sums it up: “We’ve discovered that we can do more than we originally thought.”
  • After the conclusion of the saga of light and darkness, the game continues with episodes that replace the old season system. The first episode, “Echoes,” has been running since June 11th and ends on October 8th. The focus of “Echoes” is the new antagonist, “the Conductor,” a Vex.
  • Robbie Stevens explains why they turned their back on seasons and are now moving on to episodes: The episodes with their acts allow Bungie to offer a quick cadence of content because there are more content drops.
  • Bungie sees the new system not as 3 content drops per year, but as 9 content drops, since there are three individual acts per episode.
  • In Year 10, Bungie plans to return to existing locations with a number of familiar characters and moments and to link the stories of some characters
  • Episode 2, “Revenant,” is about fulfilling the Eliksni prophecy and “putting an end to” the Scorn leader Fanatic and preparing for the future of the Eliksni.
  • In Episode 3, Heresy, you return to Oryx’s Dreadnought. It seems as if one of the Hive Gods will be able to take over the Light. The episode is intended to show what the future of the Hive might look like.
  • The episodes are clearly all intended to focus on a different, already known enemy type. First the Vex are the focus, then the Eliksni/the Fallen and in episode 3 the Hive.

In addition, Bungie revealed in the interview that Destiny 2 will receive a new exotic mission in Episode 1, Act 3, which they describe as “one of the biggest exotic missions we’ve ever built”: Destiny 2 announces the next highlight: “One of the biggest we’ve ever made”
