Laura van Nieuwenhuizen, chairman of COC Midden-Nederland, thinks that the statement is partly due to the corona lockdowns: “We were in our cocoons at the time,” and according to the chairman, this caused a drifting effect towards each other. Although Van Nieuwenhuizen supports the Anti-Bullying Week, she does not think it is enough to combat bullying – specifically of LGBTQ+ students. “It is very general now. I would prefer to see weeks for specific target groups, that is much more effective.” With a day like Purple Friday Van Nieuwenhuizen is already very happy.
