Worst hit is the city of Buffalo in the state of New York, where at least 37 people have died. During Wednesday, the National Guard knocked on doors in the city and checked if the residents were in need of food, water or medicine.
– We are afraid that there are those who may have died and lived alone or people who are not well, says Mark Poloncarz, chairman of the council in Erie County where Buffalo is the capital with its 275,000 inhabitants.
