The new government has little room for manoeuvre in public

The ministers of the Barnier government took office on Monday, September 23, two and a half months after early legislative elections that delayed the preparation of the 2025 budget. France’s finances are in the red with a public deficit that could reach 6% of GDP this year, well above the 5.1% target set by the executive. To reduce the deficit, the Prime Minister, who has ruled out any general tax increase, has not ruled out targeted levies on the wealthiest French people.
