Tensions over the balloons between North and South Korea, which began last May, have escalated again. Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, announced in a written statement that 29 balloons carrying propaganda leaflets were sent to their country from South Korea.
Kim noted that 10 large balloons were found in the Cholwon region, 8 in the Sinphyong region, 5 in the Ichon region, 4 in the Phangyo region, 1 in the Koksan region and 1 in the Phyonggang region in the morning hours, adding, “Reports of propaganda leaflets were also received from other regions.”

Stating that relevant units are continuing their analysis and destruction efforts, Kim said, “We are once again giving a stern warning to the scum. They must be prepared to pay a terrible price.” Kim warned that if South Korea continues its “rough and dirty” game, his country’s counter-action will change.
HE RESPONDED WITH TRASH BALLOONS
North Korea sent more than a thousand balloons carrying garbage to South Korea’s border regions as of May 28 in response to South Korean activists sending propaganda leaflets to the country via balloons. The South Korean government, in retaliation to North Korea, announced that it was completely suspending the agreement signed in 2018 to reduce military tensions.
