Brynäs is back in Swedish hockey’s fine room again.
But now comes the sudden announcement from Gävle.
Club icon Jacob Blomqvist is dumped before the SHL return.
It was only one year in the HockeyAllsvenskan for Brynäs, who immediately bounce back to the SHL again. The Gävle team won the regular season in superior style and were then completely dominant in the playoffs, where they won the final with a clear 4-0 against Djurgården.
Brynäs dumps
One of the qualifying heroes is the club icon Jacob Blomqvist with his big heart, who followed the team down and refused to give up. Immediately after the final, the 37-year-old announced that he wants to accompany the team up and continue playing in Brynäs.

But on Thursday came the sudden announcement from Gävle that the crowd favorite will be dumped and won’t get a new contract until the SHL return.
– I am looking for work now, he says to the club’s official website.
– We’ll see what kind of job it will be and what happens here in the future.
Nine years at the club
Blomqvist came to Brynäs already in his youth and played a total of nine seasons for the A team during three different stays. He has been team captain for three seasons and as the best took SM silver with the club in 2017.

Now he is being thanked for long and faithful service.
– During his time in Brynäs, he has been a fantastic contributor, everything from winning draws, a strong defensive player to producing both goals and assists. The biggest mark, however, is his ability to create energy in a group. The balance between being a clear demander and spreading joy is unique, says the sports manager Johan Alcén in a press release.

Jacob Blomqvist has also played in the SHL for Leksand, Timrå and Modo. Now a hunt for a new club address awaits during the summer for the seasoned right-handed shooter.
