Brothers words after the verdict Incredibly relieved

Published: Less than 30 minutes ago

After 26 years, Malin Lindström’s family has come to an end.

A 44-year-old man is sentenced to five years in prison for killing her.

– This is what we have been waiting for all these years, says her brother Håkan Lindborn, 46, to Aftonbladet.

Today came the verdict that Malin Lindström’s family has been waiting for for over two decades. The man who was suspected of murder early in the case is sentenced today for murder.

– It feels incredibly nice. We are incredibly relieved and this is what we have been hoping for these years, says Håkan Lindborn to Aftonbladet shortly after the verdict.

Malin’s siblings and parents were present during the trial in the Court of Appeal. Now the family is gathered up in Örnsköldsvik to be together when the verdict fell.

“Can’t get away”

Håkan Lindborn describes going and waiting for the verdict these two weeks after the trial as a nerve-wracking experience. The family has felt confident that the man is the killer, but has not felt safe about the outcome.

Many have reacted to the fact that the prison sentence – five years – is a bit for having murdered someone.

The Court of Appeal explains that the man was 18 years old when the crime was committed and that a long time has passed since then.

– It is difficult to have direct thoughts about it. The important thing was that it became a conviction that shows that this type of serious crime can not be avoided.

Håkan’s voice is broken by tears. He says that all these years after Malin’s death have been emotional. The man was convicted in the district court two years after the murder but was then acquitted in the court of appeal. Since then, the murder has been unsolved.

Thank the police

He wants to thank the police who found the new DNA trace, which became crucial in the case being taken up again. An analysis of a sperm stain found on the inside of Malin’s pants.

– You really have to give cred to the police who chose to analyze it at the right time, says Håkan Lindborn.

Will this be an end for you now?

– Yes it is. This is what we have been waiting for to have an opportunity to remember Malin and keep her memory in mind rather than thinking of the person who did it.

– Malin will not return, she is always gone, but remains in our memories.

Now the family should be together and take the day a little as it comes. There are many emotions to deal with on a day like this.

– We take it a little as it comes. There’s some uproar surrounding this. We have received incredibly good support from the whole of Örnsköldsvik, he says and continues:

– We will try to handle this in the best way. But it’s a good day, of course.

The 44-year-old man denies murder.
