Van der Haar, one of the favorites, had started poorly and needed Ronhaar’s help to get to the front. Ryan Kamp and Joris Nieuwenhuis had also positioned themselves at the front in a first group from which Vanthourenhout went on an adventure alone in the second round. When he crossed the line, with six laps to go, he already had a 22 second lead.
