“Broken Rage,” the new feature film directed, written and starring Takeshi Kitano, will premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival.

After winning the Golden Lion for Hana-bi (1997) and the silver one for Zatoichi (2003), the prolific Japanese director Takeshi Kitano returns to the Venice Film Festival to premiere Broken Ragethe first japanese movie produced for a streaming platform to be selected for the prestigious festival. Both described as thriller and comedy, Broken Rage will be unveiled on September 6, 2024 during the festival, but you will have to wait until 2025 to be able to watch it on Amazon Prime Video.

On the casting side, the director himself plays the role of Nezumi, a hitman. We will also find Tadanobu Asano (who played in Zatoichi And Kubi by Kitano), but also Nao Omori (who starred in five of Kitano’s films, including Dolls, Achilles and the Tortoise, Outrage: Coda And Kubi), Shido Nakamura (who made his debut in Kubi), or even Hakuryu (also appeared in many of the director’s films).
