The reigning world champion Kalle Rovanperä was in a bad way on the tenth special stage when he suddenly drove off the road.
He lost a lot of time, but on the next stage it was much worse for the competitor in the WC series Elfyn Evans.
Suddenly he crashed into a barn and was unable to continue the rally.
This means that Rovanperä more or less only needs to finish in the WC rally to secure his second straight WC title.
– I knew that Elfyn had crashed so I didn’t have to risk anything. It’s a shame for Elfyn, but I hope he’s okay, says the Finn.
Rovanperä is second in the Central European rally. Belgian Thierry Neuville leads the way. The eleventh stage was the first in Germany after having previously driven in the Czech Republic and Austria.
The WC rally is the penultimate of the season. It ends in Japan in mid-November.
