The holiday is held two days after the actual coronation ceremony in Westminster Abbey.
The 73-year-old monarch follows a more than 900-year-old tradition when he receives his crown in the cathedral. His wife Camilla, who has been given the title queen consort (the king’s wife), will also be crowned on the occasion.
The former regent, Queen Elizabeth, died on September 8, aged 96. With that, King Charles took over as head of state in 14 countries, including Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
