The price of vegetables is on the rise in Britain.

Newspaper The Guardian (you will switch to another service) according to the country’s Italian restaurants have to limit the use of tomatoes. Some have already removed tomatoes from their recipes completely.

Tomatoes are a key ingredient in Italian food, but their price has quadrupled over the past year, Federazione Italian Cuochi UK (FIC UK), a joint organization of Italian restaurants, tells the magazine.

The British government blames the situation on the bad weather in Southern Europe and North Africa. The high price of electricity has also increased costs in British and Dutch greenhouses.

Chairman of FIC UK Enzo Oliveri says the difficulties brought by Brexit and the increase in costs may force some restaurants to close their operations.
