The tabloid newspaper The Sun has backed the would-be winner in every British election since the days of Margaret Thatcher.

It looks like it will be the same this year as media mogul Robert Murdoch’s newspaper, which often leans to the right, is backing Labour.

“Time for a new captain”, writes the newspaper on Thursday’s football-inspired front page and clarifies that it is not about a new national football captain.

In an editorial, the newspaper describes the ruling Tories as a party “divided by bickering and more interested in internal strife than running the country”.

Therefore, Labor and Keir Starmer deserve the chance to lead Britain, they write, with the addition “there are still many question marks around Labour”.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Evening Standard also backed Labour. Like The Sun, the newspaper has supported the Tory Party throughout its current rule.
