British dog owners are being offered money – to euthanize their American XL bullies

Due to dog attacks, the UK bans the American XL Bully breed from 31st December. This means that it becomes prohibited to own, breed or sell an American XL Bully. The government will give compensation of 200 pounds, approximately 2700 Swedish kronor, to the owners who choose to euthanize their dog, reports Sky News.

– We are taking action to protect the public from tragic dog attacks and today I have added XL Bully to the list of prohibited dogs under the Dangerous Dogs Act, says Therese CoffeyEnvironment Secretary, reports The Guardian.

But there are exceptions. Dog owners who do not want to euthanize their dog can register the dog and always have them leashed and have the dog muzzled. Dog owners who do not comply with the new law risk fines and having the dog confiscated.

The criticism of the ban – very worrying

The organization Dog Control Coalition fights against the banning of the dog breed. They are very concerned that owners need to adapt to the new rule at such short notice, The Guardian reports.

“Dangerous to society”

– American XL Bully is dangerous for society, especially for the children, says Rishi SunakPrime Minister, reports The Guardian.

The decision is based on the dog attacks that have occurred in recent years. In the last three years alone, 12 people, including three children, have been killed by American XL Bully, reports Sky News.
