Britains last coal fired power station to cease operation News

Britain, the birthplace of coal power, intends to produce all its energy from renewable sources from 2030 at the latest.

Britain’s last coal-fired power station, Ratcliffe-on-Shoar, will be shut down for the last time between Monday and Tuesday night.

The coal power plant, which is now being closed, produced energy for the British for more than 50 years.

Britain’s first coal-fired power plant was completed in London in 1882. The shutdown of Ratcliffe-on-Shoar marks the end point for the country’s more than 140-year coal-fired tradition.

Coal power is a significant source of emissions. The closure of the power plants is part of Britain’s goal to produce all of the country’s energy from renewable sources from 2030.

Coal power has come to an end in Britain at an alarming rate: as recently as 2012, 39 percent of Britain’s electricity was produced with coal power.

Reported about it including the BBC.
