Britain accuses China of meddling with parliamentary democracy parliamentary

Britain’s Intelligence and Security Committee warned in July that Britain is one of the most significant targets for Chinese espionage.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed to the Premier of the People’s Republic of China For Li Qiang his concerns about China’s meddling in the country’s parliamentary democracy after a parliamentary investigator was arrested on suspicion of spying for China. Greater London Police confirmed two men were arrested on suspicion of espionage. According to BBC sources, one of the men was a researcher who worked in the parliament on international relations.

The researcher also had connections with numerous members of parliament from the conservative party, which included, among others, the Minister of Security Tom Tugendhat.

Prime Minister Sunak said he had expressed his concern about Chinese spying to Lille in connection with the G20 meeting.

– I raised many concerns about which we have disagreements, and in particular my great concern about any kind of interference with our parliamentary democracy, which is clearly unacceptable.

China’s espionage has been warned before

There have been growing concerns in Britain about Chinese espionage and interference in parliament. Accusations of Chinese espionage have also been made in Australia and Canada.

Britain’s Intelligence and Security Committee warned in July that Britain is one of the most significant targets for Chinese espionage. According to the committee, both Chinese companies and citizens participate in espionage.

The committee added that the British government’s response to Chinese espionage has been completely inadequate.
