In countless sci-fi films you can see the most futuristic things. In The Martian, however, everything seems as if it could really have happened just like that. With the exception of the fact that the film is set on Mars. But that didn’t stop some people from believing that it was all real when it was released in cinemas. Today the film is on TV.
This is what The Martian is all about, a real sci-fi gem on TV
Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is the only survivor left alone on Mars. The other members of his expedition had to abort their mission. They thought the scientist was fatally injured and therefore irretrievably lost. But the Martian does not give up and does everything he can to survive.
Over time, he even manages to produce food and oxygen and more or less make himself at home on the red planet. Last but not least, Mark Watney sets off on his own rescue mission, which takes him thousands of kilometers through the wasteland of what is probably the most hostile environment there is.
Why some people thought The Martian was real
Here you will not see lightsabers, laser weapons or Death Stars, nor intergalactic travel through space or aliens. Instead, in The Martian we get highly down-to-earth, very realistic sci-fi served in a near, plausible future.
When writing the book, Andy Weir took many years to research everything as accurately as possible and to produce a correspondingly realistic work.
