Brilliant reinvention of a zombie milestone the beginning alone will

With Zombie – Dawn of the Dead, George A. Romero created perhaps the most influential zombie film of all time alongside Night of the Living Dead. Today ZDF is broadcasting the new edition of Dawn of the Dead, which mutates into panic excess in the first five minutes.

In the plot of the new edition, large parts of the world’s population were wiped out by a mysterious plague. However, the infected do not stay dead, but return as zombies. Dawn of the Dead focuses on one Group of survivors seeking refuge in a huge shopping mall. But the undead quickly invade here too.

Zack Snyder’s zombie update becomes a raging action-horror inferno

After starting out as a commercial and music video director, Dawn of the Dead was Snyder’s feature film debut. Its new edition is from one almost aggressive style full of hectic cuts and restless images whipped forward. Compared to the much more leisurely rhythm of Romero’s original, Snyder’s new version quickly develops into an exhausting whiplash, in which hell on earth breaks out immediately after the first scenes.

The opening alone, in which nurse Ana’s husband (Sarah Polley) is mauled by the neighbor’s daughter and then attacks her himself, sets the tone for Snyder’s hyperkinetic Dawn of the Dead vision.
