Bright’s Udderly Ridiculous invites you to ‘Wreck the Dress’

Brights Udderly Ridiculous invites you to Wreck the Dress

An Oxford County farm that has become a popular tourist destination in recent years is hosting an upcoming fundraiser in support of a scholarship fund for women who have experienced domestic abuse.

On Sept. 23, the folks at Udderly Ridiculous Farm Life will be welcoming people to their Bright, Ont., farm for the second annual Wreck the Dress – Farm Edition. A collaboration with the Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Regionthis fashion fundraiser invites guests to wear thrifted, unwanted or borrowed special-occasion gowns and dresses and “wreck” them in a fun-filled day with the farm’s goats, alpacas and themed stations.

Professional photographers will be on hand to capture these memorable moments for the day’s participants.

Co-hosted by Queen Victoria, the farmer’s online influencer and favorite goat, the fundraiser will raise money for the Moving Forward Scholarship Fund, which provides education grants to women who experienced domestic abuse. In its inaugural year, the fund successfully raised $5,000 and provided 10 scholarships.

“While filled with fun and laughter, the event is a powerful symbol of resilience,” said Cheryl Haskett, the founder and CEO of Udderly Ridiculous Inc. “It’s about moving beyond surviving to thriving.”

Haskett previously shared her own experiences with intimate partner violence on an episode of She Is Your Neighbour, an online video series and project that explores the complexities of domestic abuse by sharing stories from people from all walks of life.

In addition to the fun with the furry friends, the day will also include live music from Rock Well Live, a vendor marketplace, food-truck dining, an on-site raffle, an online auction, and pole dance and aerial demonstrations. Another highlight will be the fashion parade and competition for the most creatively “wrecked” dresses.

Tickets for the event are now available at wreckthedress.ca and range from $50 to $100 per person. Spectator tickets are also available for $25 per person. This event welcomes women, as well as women-identifying, non-gendered or gendered allies, to participate wearing a dress. All participants must be 18 and older.
