The match was goalless until Brighton took the lead in the 27th minute, through Evan Ferguson. In the 65th minute, Evan Ferguson netted again, making it 2-0.
Evan Ferguson also made it 3-0 in the 70th minute played by Kaoru Mitoma and thus completed his hat-trick.
The reduction to 3-1 came in added time, when Callum Wilson struck to score for Newcastle. However, it was not more than that for Newcastle.
Newcastle have had a tough start to the series and have just three points after four games played. Brighton have nine points.
