North Korea has responded to the United Nations regarding Travis King, the American soldier who was captured by North Korea after he illegally crossed the border into the country. But there wasn’t much in response, reports the Reuters news agency.

Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrik Ryder said at a news conference that North Korea had only confirmed that it had received the UN’s request for information about the soldier.

– I can confirm that North Korea has responded to the UN, but I have no major progress to report on, Ryder said.

The circumstances surrounding how the 23-year-old American ended up at the border in the first place are unclear. King is said to have been released after serving a custodial sentence on assault charges. He is said to have been escorted to an airport to be brought back to the United States.

Somehow he left the airport and later joined a guided tour of the South Korean border village of Panmunjom. There, he allegedly ran across the border into North Korea laughing.
