Brief lockdown Monday morning at Brantford General Hospital

A Code Silver lockdown was initiated shortly after 11 am Monday morning at Brantford General Hospital.

“The See and Treat area of ​​the Emergency Department identified an object on a person that appeared to be a dangerous weapon, prompting the activation of Code Silver – Stage 2,” said Alena Lukich, vice-president of strategy, quality, risk and communications at the Brant Community Healthcare System. “The police were immediately notified and arrived on site to provide assistance.”

Officers determined the item was not a weapon, but in fact a lighter designed to look like a firearm.

“In a Code Silver – Stage 2, the hospital building impacted is securely locked down,” Lukich explained. “This means that regular access to the hospital building is restricted. All staff lock access to their individual departments until the threat is located and safely resolved.”

The lockdown was lifted after about 10 minutes, and regular access to the hospital resumed.

No arrests were made.
