BRIDGERTON SEASON 2. The Bridgerton Chronicles is back on Netflix with its season 2, without the Duke of Hastings who had won over fans. The reasons behind the departure of Regé-Jean Page.
[Mis à jour le 25 mars 2022 à 14h28] The Bridgertons are back on Netflix. A year and a half after the success of the first burst of episodes, the streaming platform put online this Friday, March 25, 2022 season 2 of The Bridgerton Chronicle. Fans of the first season will regret the absence of Regé-Jean Page, who played the attractive Duke of Hastings Simon Basset. The actor has indeed decided not to renew his contract for eight new episodes, believing that the intrigue around his character was definitely over.
In any case, this is what he explained to Variety’s microphone in April 2021: “I said to myself, ‘It’s interesting’, because it looked like a limited series. I can participate, I can make my contribution, then the Bridgerton family moves on.” That the fans of The Bridgerton Chronicle reassure themselves, the actor is not replaced in season 2 and the character simply disappears from the screen. However, he is mentioned several times since his wife Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) appears in these 8 new episodes devoted to the love story of Anthony Bridgerton.
Even before the release of season 2, The Bridgerton Chronicle had been renewed. There will not only be a season 3 but also a season 4. It was on a letter from Lady Whistledown, relayed on Netflix’s social networks, who announced the happy news for fans: “Very privileged members of society “It looks like we have a special announcement to make. Bridgerton will be returning for a season 3 and a season 4. The author is going to have to buy some ink. Sincerely. Lady Whistledown.” However, we do not yet know the release date of these two sequels, but the filming should begin in the summer of 2022 for a probable release in 2023. If we follow the order of the books, season 3 could follow the romance between Benedict, the youngest of the Bridgerton family, and Sophie Beckett, the illegitimate daughter of the Earl of Penwood who works as a servant (a story that is reminiscent of that of Cinderella). Season 4 should see a romance between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
Netflix revealed the synopsis for season 2 of The Bridgerton Chronicle in a press release: “Lord Anthony Bridgerton, Viscount and eldest of his siblings, sets out in search of a most respectable wife. If he is convinced that it is his duty to preserve the Bridgertons’ name, his efforts to find a young girl to match his mad demands seem futile.Until Kate and her younger sister Edwina Sharma arrive from India. When Anthony begins courting Edwina, Kate understands his true intentions – he is in no way seeking to marry for love – and decides to do everything possible to prevent this union. But the speckled foil exchanges between Kate and Anthony only bring them closer each other, complicating the situation for everyone… On the other side of Grosvenor Square, the Featheringtons must welcome their new heir, while Penelope tries to establish her position in high society, while say simulating his most unmentionable secret to those close to him.”

Regé-Jean Page achieved worldwide success by interpreting Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, in The Bridgerton Chronicle. But the comedian announced in April 2021 that he will not appear in the sequel to the series. It should therefore be absent from season 2, devoted to the romance between Anthony and Kate. To justify his departure, Regé-Jean Page spoke to Variety about his discussion with the production before season 1, which had told him that each season was independent and had a specific plot: “I said to myself, ‘It’s interesting’ , because it felt like a limited series. I can participate, I can contribute, and then the Bridgerton family moves on.” However, the actor is not replaced in the role of Simon during this season 2. His wife, Daphne, appears well in this salvo of 8 new episodes, and the Duke of Hastings is indeed mentioned a few times. .
