New episodes of this series are uploaded to Netflix this week. She has all the qualities to please fans of Bridgerton or historical dramas.
You like The Bridgertons and you are missing a series that modernizes the story with a hint of romance? Netflix is full of programs for fans of the genre. This week, the streaming platform is making new episodes of a German series available which has all the ingredients to seduce fans of princely idylls, with a marked historical context.
Created by Katharina Eyssen and Lena Stahl, The Empress traces, as its name indicates, the life of Elisabeth de Wittelsbach. Better known by the nickname “Sissi”, this 15-year-old Bavarian duchess falls in love with her sister’s fiancé, who is none other than Emperor Franz Joseph. When she married him, she moved to Vienna and discovered the complexity of the political world and the intrigues fomented by her mother-in-law and brother-in-law.
In the casting of The empressit is the actress Devrim Lingnau who plays the leading role. She plays alongside Philip Froissant (Black Island), Melika Foroutan (Old People, Tribes of Europa), Johannes Nussbaum, Elisa Schlott (The Undercover Agent, Our Miraculous Years) or Jördis Triebel (Emma’s Happiness).
Released two years ago, The empress may please Netflix subscribers who enjoyed The Bridgertons and who are looking for a period series, with majestic settings, beautiful costumes, and royal intrigues. Even if it does not have much to see, this new version of the life of Elisabeth of Austria could also attract the curiosity of fans of the saga released in cinemas from 1955, with Romy Schneider in the main role. On the condition of course not being too careful about the habits and customs of the time, since it is obviously a fictionalized version of the life of Sissi which questions class relations.
Season 2 of The empresswhich will consist of six episodes, is available on Netflix from Thursday November 22, 2024. The six episodes of the first season are already accessible to subscribers of the streaming platform who would like to catch up with the series before the release of the sequel.
