According to the data shared by the Ministry of Health, the type of cancer that is most common in women in our country and in the world and also causes death most frequently is breast cancer.
On February 4, 2021, the World Health Organization announced that breast cancer has now risen to the top with 11.7% of all newly diagnosed cancers, followed by lung cancer with the second frequency with 11.4%, colorectal cancer with 10% and prostate cancer with 7.3%. announced that it is the fourth most common disease and stomach cancer is the fifth most common, at 5.6%.
The “Pink Ribbon” theme is used in awareness and consciousness-raising events held all over the world in October.
“Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” held annually in October, aims to promote screening and prevention of the disease, which affects 2.3 million women worldwide.
In this month, all stakeholders working on breast cancer, especially international organizations, non-governmental organizations and academicians, carry out a series of campaigns and programs.
IT WAS ALSO MENTIONED IN THE GNAT
Yesterday in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, CHP Tekirdağ Deputy Nurten Yontar said, “We women, rest assured, we are very strong.” He drew attention to the Breast Cancer Awareness Month between 1-31 October. At the end of CHP’s Yontar’s speech, he said, “Living is good, but living healthy and growing old is better than anything else.” When he took off his wig and put on a mask, he was applauded by the MPs.
The most well-known of these campaigns is the “Pink Ball on the Field” project. The ball will be in the air this year with Çağla Şikel in the application that calls on women to take action for their health.
THE TARGET OF THESE STUDIES;
Supporting people diagnosed with breast cancer, including metastatic breast cancer
Educating and raising people’s awareness about breast cancer risk factors
Knowing personal breast cancer risks and emphasizing the importance of regular screening starting from the appropriate age
Raising awareness of the need for more support and research about the disease.
HOW TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS?
Knowing what your breasts normally look like is an important part of breast health. When women examine their breasts regularly every month, starting from the age of twenty, they will be able to notice the slightest changes in their breasts early on. Catching breast cancer as early as possible offers a chance for successful treatment. But knowing what to look for is no substitute for getting regular mammograms and other screening tests.
Screening tests help find breast cancer in the early stages, long before any symptoms appear. For this reason, in our country, women between the ages of 40-69 are screened with mammography free of charge, once every two years, before they have any complaints.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?
The most common symptom of breast cancer; It is the palpation and feeling of a painless lump (mass) in the breast that grows over time. In addition, the following symptoms can also be seen in breast cancer, regardless of whether there is a palpable lump (mass):
**Swelling of all or part of a breast (even if no obvious lump can be felt)
Pain in the breast or nipple
Inflammatory condition (eczema, yeast) marked by itching and burning on the breast skin
Nipple retractions
Orange peel appearance on the breast
Breast skin irritation
Unilateral nipple discharge (especially bloody discharge)
Swelling in part or all of the breast, change in shape of the breast
Redness, crusting, thickening of the breast or nipple skin
Lump (mass) in the armpit, sometimes before the breast lump can be felt. Cancer can cause swelling or a lump in the armpit or around the collarbone.**
Although these symptoms may be caused by conditions other than breast cancer, if any of the symptoms listed above are observed, a general surgeon should be examined to find out the cause.
