    – We want to avoid unfamiliar people lighting fires in uncontrolled stoves, says Anders Lundberg, fire engineer at MSB to TT.

New York and Singapore are the world’s most expensive cities.

It reports BBC referring to the annual survey of the EIU, the Economist Intelligence Unit.

It is the first time that New York tops the list. Last year it was Tel Aviv which is now the third most expensive city. Los Angeles and San Francisco are also among the top ten, which is explained by the high inflation.

The average cost in the world’s largest cities has gone up by 8.1 percent. The reason is stated to be high inflation and the impact on supply chains due to the pandemic and China’s zero covid policy, the war in Ukraine and sanctions.

    – That, combined with rising interest rates and exchange rate changes, has resulted in a cost of living crisis all over the world, says Upasana Dutt, responsible for the research.

Inflation was particularly high in Istanbul, where prices rose by 86 percent, Buenos Aires by 64 percent and Tehran by 57 percent.

Prices have been compared in 172 cities. According to Dutt, the average price increase has been higher than ever since the measurements started 20 years ago.

  • Large fire at school – risk of spread

There is a fire at a school in Åtvidaberg.

The police and emergency services were called to the school just before 8pm on Thursday evening and there was heavy smoke at the scene.

    – It is a building divided into two parts. An older part and a newer extension. There is a fire in the older part of the roof, says Niklas Nyrén, alarm and line operator at the Östra Götaland Rescue Service.

Around 30 firefighters are on site. The emergency services are currently focusing on preventing the spread to a newer part.

    – We have a large crew on site and working on it, but it is always troublesome to access these types of fires, he says.

There are no reports of personal injuries. The police are on the scene to assist the emergency services and have drawn up a report of arson.
