Breaking news: Israeli War Cabinet member Benny Gantz said at a press conference, “I regretfully announce my official resignation from the government.” said.
CALLED FOR EARLY ELECTIONS
Arguing that Netanyahu prevented Israel from “moving towards real victory”, Gantz stated that Netanyahu made decisions based on political considerations.
Gantz called on Netanyahu for early elections “as soon as possible” and invited Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to withdraw from the government.
Stating that he supports the prisoner exchange proposal put forward by US President Joe Biden, Gantz asked Netanyahu to be courageous to reach this agreement.
Gantz had threatened on May 18 that his party would withdraw from the government if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not approve a plan for the aftermath of the attacks in Gaza by June 8.
GAZA DIVISION COMMANDER ALSO RESIGNED
It was stated that the commander of the Gaza Division of the Israeli army resigned because he failed to protect the military bases and settlements in the border area during the attacks carried out by Hamas on October 7, 2023.
According to Israeli state television KAN, Brigadier General Avi Rosenfeld resigned after failing in his mission to protect areas along the Gaza border.
According to the news, Rosenfeld noted that everyone should take their share of responsibility for what happened on October 7.
This is not the first resignation related to the October 7 attacks. Chief of the Military Intelligence Department, Major General Aharon Haliva, also resigned on April 22.
Haliva, who decided to resign due to the failure that led to the October 7 attacks, said in his resignation letter, “The intelligence unit under my command could not fulfill its mission. I will bear the pain of the war forever. I now want to accept responsibility and end my duty.” He included his statements.
