In the statement made by the Libyan Red Crescent, it was reported that the loss of life in the city of Derna, which was most affected by the flood, increased to 11 thousand 300 and 10 thousand 100 people were missing. In the statement, it was stated that search and rescue efforts continue in the city and that the loss of life may increase.
“THE NUMBER OF DEAD MAY FIND 20 THOUSAND”
Mayor of Derna, Abdulmenam al-Ghaithi, stated in his statement that the number of people who lost their lives in the flood could reach 18-20 thousand, and said, “We need teams specialized in removing dead bodies. “I fear that the city will be infected with an epidemic due to the presence of many dead bodies under the rubble and in the water,” he said.
On the other hand, the flood disaster in Derna was caused by the collapse of two dams, and more than 30 million cubic meters of water were distributed to the city.
