In a statement signed by US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron, it was called for tensions in the region to be reduced as soon as possible. The ceasefire call was supported by the US and France, as well as Australia, Canada, the European Union, Germany, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
The statement also emphasized the importance of taking steps to ensure safety and security so that civilians can return to their homes.
Speaking at the council, French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot called on the parties to accept the agreement that will be presented.
Barrot stated that many leaders were in New York and that this should be used as an opportunity to find a diplomatic solution in Lebanon. The minister, who emphasized a diplomatic solution, stated that the details of the agreement to be presented would be shared soon.
The French minister added that he would visit the region.
On the other hand, speaking about the possibility of a ceasefire, the Lebanese Prime Minister said, “I hope it will happen soon.”
