Few series have burned themselves into the collective memory of series history like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul by Vince Gilligan. The showrunner revealed to Variety for the first time details about his ominous new sci-fi series, which is set to begin filming shortly. Two major similarities to Gilligan’s meth franchise emerge from his statements.
Vince Gilligan brings back key elements from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul
So far, two main details were known about the untitled series: Firstly, it is said to be a sci-fi story. And secondly, Rhea Seehorn will play, who starred as Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul. But there is another parallel to his previous series masterpieces, as Gilligan reveals.

Rhea Seehorn and Bob Odenkirk in Better Call Saul
Rhea plays a completely different character than she did in Better Call Saul. Funnily enough, the new series is also set in Albuquerque, but it is a completely different world. […] [Die Serie] takes place in our modern world, which suddenly changes completely in the first episode.
Gilligan doesn’t reveal anything more. Based on his words, the change in episode 1 could mean a variety of things. Maybe there’s a zombie epidemic like in episode 1 of The Walking Dead. Or half the population just disappears like in The Society. Gilligan describes the genre of his series as “mild science fiction”so alien invasions probably won’t be seen.
When does Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan’s sci-fi series come out?
Giligan’s new series is set to appear on AppleTV+. However, there is no exact start date yet. According to Variety Filming is scheduled to start next winter.
