Internacional Porto Alegre on Thursday condemned racist messages made on social networks against its Ecuadorian striker Enner Valencia, after the club’s elimination in the semi-final of the Copa Libertadores. “Internacional vehemently rejects the racist attacks directed against its player Enner Valencia,” the club said in a statement, adding that it “does not tolerate any discrimination” and “compasses with the player and his family.” Valencia, who spent part of his career in England at West Ham and Everton, was targeted on social media by Internacional supporters for missing two clear scoring opportunities during the semi-final second leg against Fluminense on Wednesday. Internacional then lost 2-1 (4-3 over the two matches).
