In Brazil, the country’s highest court blocks access to the messaging service X (formerly Twitter), reports news agency AFP.

The decision was made after X did not appoint a new representative in Brazil for his company as required by law by the deadline.

Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority Anatelia to confirm within 24 hours that access to the site has been denied.

Moraes’ sentence is valid until X complies with the court’s decision, which includes, among other things, the payment of fines of almost three million euros and the appointment of a new representative.

In addition, Moraes’ judgment imposes a fine of up to 8,000 euros per day for those parties that try to circumvent the blocking with the help of VPN services.

Owner of X Elon Musk and the Brazilian judiciary have been in controversy for a long time. Earlier this year, Moraes ordered X to shut down accounts that spread fake news and hate speech. Musk accused Moraes of censorship and closed X’s facilities in Brazil in protest.

In addition, the country’s judiciary has closed the bank accounts of Starlink, the company founded by Musk that offers satellite internet systems, in Brazil.
