Brantford’s Annual Wheelchair Basketball Tournament is a Fundraising Event for the City’s Community Services and Support Services. Top Fundraising Teams Being in Thousands of Dollars.

Brantford’s Wheelchair Basketball Tournament is back for another year, Bringing with it top fundraising teams such as another round.

The Team of Family and Friends is one of more than 10 regional registered for this year’s wheneelchair basketball tournament in support of Brantwood Community Services and support support services.

“I was actually thinking about this the other day and i can say for sure that we startd playing in 2011 but it might has Started even before that,” Said Leeanne Vreugdenhil, Captain of the Another Round. “People Have Often Thought That Our Team Name Comes from a bar but that’s not the case.

“Most of us we withdrew or form Bartenders and the team name is a play on words for Both Bartending and Wheelchair Basketball.

Vreugdenhil Said the Team Keeps Returning because is so much fun.

“Most of Us Really Aren’t that Athletic But this is Something We Can Really Enjoy and Play Reasonably Well,” Vreugdenhil Said. “We all know people who have or that can be been benefited from the services provided by these two agencies.

“We want to raise money for them because we see important they are too community.”

Last Year’s Tournament Raised $ 7,000, Which was split been Brantford and support participation. Another Round Raised $ 1,900 of the Total, Making the Team The Event’s Top Fundraiser.

“Out of all the Years that we are participating, We’ve Been the Top Fundraiser with only one exception,” Vreugdenhil Said. “WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO PARTICIPATING Again This YEAR AND RAISING Money for the Two Agencies.”

The team includes Candice and Justin Isenegger, Tammy and Romeo Trotman, James and Sandy Devries, Christopher Defaria and Janis McLaren.

The Tournament Takes Place at Branlyn Community Center on Feb. 8. It will feature mayy other team that has long participated in the event include branlyn Neighbourhood association, Brantford Police, Brantford Professional Firefighters, Onondaga Volunteer Firefighters, The Spoke Benders, The Aquitables. A Wheely Good Time, Ghost Encounters, A Team from Brantwood, A City Hall Team and A Team from participation services.

Other Teams that may be participating include one representing the lions club, Another from Conestoga College and one from Brant Mutual.

“It’s Always a Fun Time and We Really Gateful for the Support We Receive from the Community,” Tracy Humphrey, of Brantwood Said. “Most of the team who participates are here every year and i think that adds to the fun.

“I can’t Wait for the Opening Tip OFF.”

The Annual Tournament is in its 27th Year and is co-organized by Humphrey and Doug Hunt of Support Services. They are supported by Volunteers from Lions Clubs in Brantford and the Surrounding Area, the Branlyn Neighbourhood Association and the Brant Norfolk Basketball Officials Association.

Brantwood Helps People with Developmental Disability Live as independently as possible in the community while support Helps adults with physical and complex needs live as independently as possible.

But While Raising Money for Programs that Help Customers of Both Agencies is important part of the tournament, it isn’t the only goal.

“This Tournament Always Raises Awareness for the Work of Both Agencies and it also gives people an understanding of what it’s like to use a whelchair for Mobility,” Hunt Said. “It’s also a fun way of Bringing the Community Together in Support of A Good Cause.”

The Tournament Begins at 9 am and continues into the afternoon.
