Brantford man faces weapons charges

Three people charged following domestic disputes

A 41-year-old Brantford man has been charged with numerous weapons-related offenses in connection with an Aug. 8 robberies.

Brantford police were dispatched to a Colborne Street motel at about 5 am after receiving a report of a robbery involving a firearm.

The suspect is alleged to have attended the motel when he forcefully entered the victim’s unit, brandished a firearm and robbed the victim of a small amount of cash before fleeing on foot. The victim did not receive any physical injuries in the incident, police said.

The police High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) initiated an investigation and arrested the accused in the area of ​​Market Street South and Icomm Drive at about 11:45 am Wednesday (Aug. 8). Upon further investigation, police learned the accused was under a release order and two firearm prohibition orders. Officers then obtained a warrant to search a vehicle associated with the accused and located and seized two firearms.

Police have charged the accused with break and enter, robbery with a firearm, intimidation, point a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of possession of a firearm and two counts of failing to comply with a judicial release order. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
