Brantford Garden Club to host 168th annual flower show on

The Brantford Garden Club will host the 168th annual flower show on Saturday at the Lions Park arena auditorium.

The club — founded in 1852 — is the oldest horticulture society in Ontario and currently ranks 272 members, according to show convener Carol Sterkenburg.

“This is our first show since 2019 so we are really excited,” she said.

Members will be entering annual and perennial specimens in more than 100 categories, including those from flower gardens, house plants, herbs, fruits, and vegetables.

Summer Blooms is the theme for this year’s seven design categories, and a youth section has been added to the competition.

“The winning entries are selected by a judge registered with the Ontario Horticulture Society,” explained the convenor. “Awards will be presented… to entrants with highest total points in all categories, including judge’s choice, president’s choice, and best of show.

Doors will open for the public to view the entries from 2 to 4:30 pm

“The objectives of the Garden Club are to encourage an interest in horticulture and promote protection of the environment,” Sterkenburg said. “We have monthly meetings September to June on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm at Lions Park Auditorium.”
