Brantford Fire responds to three blazes in 24 hours

Fire caused damage to the Stan’s Fries chip wagon in downtown Brantford on Thursday.

Brantford Fire deputy chief Scott Pipe said one of the chip wagon workers called 9-1-1 at 4:46 pm after exiting the premises, saying the building was smoking.

Fire crews had the blaze extinguished at 4:59 pm

Darling Street was closed to traffic between Market and Queen Streets for a short period of time.

Pipe said he was unsure as to the extent of the damage or how long the business would remain closed.

FIRE AT RECYCLING COMPANY

Firefighters were called to a recycling business at 40 Alice Street at 4:10 am on Friday.

Upon arrival, Pipe said crews could see sparks and flames shooting about 20 feet in the air from a pile of recycling materials.

“They got water on the fire very quickly, were very aggressive, and were able to contain the fire to a pile in the yard,” he said. “They had it under control at 5:18 pm”

The deputy chief said the fire is considered suspicious.

HOUSE FIRE

Brantford firefighters responded to a “very minor” fire at 208 North Park Street on Friday afternoon.

A neighbor who saw smoke coming from the house called the fire department at 3:08 pm

“Crews arrived at the scene very quickly, did an aggressive fire attack and had the fire under control at 3:17 pm,” said Pipe.

The cause of the fire, and a damage estimate were not available at press time.
