Now, Colin and Brittany Wright hope that their special day – the first ever wedding ceremony at the football stadium in Hamilton – will help them win the CFL Fan of the Year contest.

“I started going to Ticat games with my dad (Cameron Moos) when I was about two years old. He had season tickets when it was called Ivor Wynne Stadium. I’ve been going to games throughout my entire life,” said Brittany, age 34.

Colin — also a season ticket holder — was a friend of Brittany’s stepbrother and they began to hang out at games.

“We ended up starting to date after a Tiger Cat game six years ago on October 13,” she recalled. “Then last year on October 13 my husband proposed to me at the game on our six-year anniversary.”

Once engaged, the couple had planned on eloping and having a small ceremony but couldn’t decide on a location.

“My husband suggested that we should ask about Tim Horton Field since we had previously done family photos on the field with our four-year-old son Finn,” Brittany explained. “I e-mailed them, and they said they had never had an inquiry about having a ceremony on the field.”

The couple had to wait until February 2024 for the Tiger Cat and Forge FC (professional soccer) schedules to be released before they could book the date. They got married at center field on July 12, 2024.

“It was perfect for us because it’s our favorite place to be together, and with our son and family tradition, why not have our ceremony where we always go,” she said. “Every time we go to watch a Ticat game we also get to go back to the place where we got married.”

The 68 wedding guests sat in the stands at center field where they also watched the couple’s first dance following the ceremony. Then everyone moved to the end zone where the bride tossed her bouquet through the goal posts.

The reception was held in the stadium’s clubhouse, where Tiger Cat player Stavros Katsantonis and his wife made a surprise visit with the newlyweds.

Brittany found out about the CFL Fan of the Year contest through a CFL Insider email she received.

The contest closes on Thursday, November 7 and people can vote for the Wright’s by visiting gamezone.cfl.ca/fanoftheyear/voting/352

“I feel like we are the CFL Fan of the Year. We are hardcore Ticat fans, and we have our season tickets,” she explained. “Our story together brought us to be married on the field just because the Ticats felt like home to us.”
