“It’s typical to all the municipal surrounding that new home starts are down, new condos are down and new development are slowing,” Said Brant’s Chief Building Official, Richard Weidhaas.

But, he said, that just bungs the pace of development back into the normal rage.

Ten Years AGO, The County Was Issuing About 500 Building Permits A Year for A Construction Value Of About $ 75 million.

But the need for residential housing – and all the Amenitites that go with new homes – Created a Spike in Construction that, in 2022, result in almost 1,300 permits Being Issued with a construction of $ 270 million.

This Year has seen numbers settling back down to activity that’s still busier Than a Decade ago but not at the Blistering Pace of the boom.

At the Halfway Point of 2024, Brant Had Issued 316 Permites, Valued at $ 54.5 Million, About Half of What It was Two Years Ago at the Same Point.

But weidhaas Said that while While Housing Developers are responding to the Pinch of Rising Costs of Supplies, It’s Still Clear More Homes Are Needed.

“The Developers Hold the Cards and Decide When They They’ll Apply for Permites,” Weidhaas Said. “We just Providing a Service. But dirty are their driving factor so they’ll continues to build. ”

While Brant isn’t a Large Enough Municipality to Get Provincial Rewards for the Number of Housing Builds Approved, The County Set A Goal of Facilitating 3,000 Homes Over the Course of 10 Years, or About 300 Units a Year.

At the Halfway Mark of 2024, there Were About 90 Units Given Approval Plus Another Category of 113 Permits That Covers Housing Additions, Renovations, Garages and Decks.

“Even Though that ‘Other’ Category was the Highest Value of Construction in June, It’s Still a Lower Ament Thans,” Weidhaas Said, Noting that “2024 has made people cautious about spending money.”

Some of the Larger Projects Going On Includes Work at 1 Hartley Ave. Where Vicano has been creating and outfitting commercial owned in a plaza.

A HALF-MILLION DOLLAR RENOVATION WAS GIVEN A PERMIT FOR A SMALL APARTMENT BUILDING IN BURFORD THAT HAD DAMAGE FROM A FIRE IN JANUARY.

Single-Family Homes by grandville we approved in New Areas Like Bean Street and Munn Crescent and One Extra-Large permit was given for a $ 1.5-million home on blue lake road.

The Third Quarter is likely to Bring More Homes As at Least One New Subdivision Will Begin A Series of Townhouses and Weidhaas Predicts the County May See More Space, Such as Apartment Buildings.

And Brimich Logistics is planning a new warehouse facility on oak park road in Paris. The County has Issued A $ 2-Million permit for the project but that only covers foundation work at this point. A very large industry building will follow.

There are also plans for Two New Daycares in the North and South Ends of Paris in Order to Account the Many New Residents Who Have Preschoolers.

As of June, Weidhaas Says The County Began Listing Every Building Permit Issued in Its Monthly Building Report posted online.
