The funding, announced by Brantford-Brant MPP Will Bouma on Thursday, will go towards planned improvements between Silver Street and Watt’s Pond Road. The improvements are needed to help facilitate the construction of up to 4,215 homes in Brant County.

“Our government is making sure rural communities are seeing the new investments, infrastructure and homes they need to thrive and create new jobs and opportunities,” Bouma said. “This investment for Grand River Street North Road and intersection improvements will certainly help the fast-growing community of Paris while addressing transportation and infrastructure improvements.”

Bouma, joined by Brant County Mayor David Bailey, made the announcement at the Home Hardware Building Center on Grand River Street North. Several county councilors and Brant County staff members also attended the announcement.

“We need housing,” Bouma said. “My children dream of owning a home and I want to see that dream come true for them and many more people.”

Bouma said these kinds of projects are about more than building homes. They’re about laying the foundation for a brighter future for local residents.

The Watt’s Pond Road to Silver Street project is one part of a major makeover of Grand River Street North starting in downtown Paris. The project includes improvements to municipal infrastructure above and below ground.

Work on the downtown Paris portion of the project is already under way.

Bailey thanked Bouma for the funding.

“This is excellent news for Brant,” Bailey said. “As we all know, the county is a desirable place to live and this funding represents a crucial step toward providing reliable, safe and sustainable roadway to meet the needs of our growing community.”

The funding is being delivered through the Housing -Enabling Core Servicing Stream under the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program. The program includes $400 million to help build, repair and maintain municipal roads, bridges and culverts that will encourage housing growth in Ontario communities.
