Brant closes four customer service offices

Brant County says it is permanently closing customer service offices in Paris, Oakland, Onondaga and St. George.

In a news release Wednesday, the county said the closings are part of changes being made to in-person and online services for residents.

Offices being closed are at: 15 Curtis Ave. N., Paris; 3 King St. N., Oakland; 734 Hwy 54, Onondaga; and 7 Gaukel Dr., St. George. Drop boxes will be available at the locations, the county said.

The county said customer service now will be provided by Brant County public library branches, which offer a greater variety of days and times throughout the week.

“These (customer service) offices experienced a trending decrease in demand over the past several years and as a result, the hours of availability were slowly reduced to reflect the usage,” Brant CAO Michael Bradley said. “During the COVID pandemic, these offices remained closed.

“Looking at how we could improve customer service and work in a mutually beneficial manner, we found a logical solution to transfer customer service to the library branches.”

The change has resulted in greater in-person service availability (including weekend evenings and weekend hours) at the library branches and exposes residents to the great resources and programs offered at the library, Bradley said.

The Scotland-Oakland library branch at 281 Oakland Rd. is open: Tuesday, 3 pm to 8 pm; Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 3 pm to 8 pm, Friday, noon to 5 pm and Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm

The St. George library branch located at 78 Main St. N. is open: Tuesday, 10 am to 8 pm; Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Sunday (October to April), noon to 4 pm

The county said the Paris and Burford library branches also soon will offer municipal customer service.

County services at the libraries include tax payments, dog tags and licensing, photocopies and faxes, Freedom of Information initial requests and Brant Transit punch cards purchase and pickup

Greater variety of services are available at main customer service offices located in Burford at 26 Park Ave. and in Paris at 66 Grand River St. N. Both are open 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

The following services are available at the Brant Sports Complex, at 944 Powerline Rd., Brant, which is open 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Sunday: dog park membership and key, dog license and tag, tennis court membership and key and camp registration and recreation program registration

The county said a number of online services are available, including recreation program registration, building permit applications, property tax payments, dog licenses and parking ticket payment. For a full listing, visit www.brant.ca/OnlineServices.

The county’s website (www.brant.ca) now offers live customer service from noon to 8 pm, Monday to Friday.
