Brampton pair accused of assaulting male, stealing vehicle before fleeing Chatham

Call about man acting erratic leads to arrest

A man and woman from Brampton are accused of assaulting a male in the parking lot of the Wellington Street LCBO store in Chatham just after noon on Friday then stealing his vehicle.

Chatham-Kent police said the vehicle was last seen speeding while going east on Highway 401.

The accused were arrested for robbery after the stolen vehicle was involved in a crash near Ingersoll, police said.

The pair was taken to hospital where they were medically cleared.

Chatham-Kent police traveled to Ingersoll to take custody of the two accused who were transported back to police headquarters where they were remanded in bail and held in custody for a court appearance on Monday, police said.

Warrant arrests

Two people on warrants were arrested in separate incidents after the vehicles they were in were arrested by Chatham-Kent police.

Police said a suspicious vehicle complaint resulted in a vehicle being pulled over that had a 26-year Ridgetown man inside who was wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court.

The accused was arrested and taken into custody pending a bail hearing, police said.

A 17-year-old male, with a warrant, was located in a vehicle that was pulled over.

Police said the male was found with a knife in his waistband which he was prohibited to have under his release conditions.

He was arrested for failing to comply with his undertaking and transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released with a March 7 court date, police said.
