The host of C8 was sentenced Thursday by the Paris Criminal Court for having uttered insults against the deputy LFI Louis Boyard in 2022.
“Tocard”, “Farm your mouth”, “Abruted” … The verdict fell after the insults made by Cyril Hanouna against the deputy Louis Boyard, on November 10, 2022, on the set of Touche not at my post (TPMP). The flagship presenter of C8 was sentenced by the Paris Criminal Court to 4000 euros fine for insults “against an elected representative of the Republic”, this Thursday, February 20. C8 director general, Franck Appietto, has a fine of 500 euros.
Justice said in his judgment that the remarks made by Cyril Hanouna were “ad hominem attacks”. In the section “The quarter of an hour without filter” of the show, the troublemaker of the PAF had indeed addressed in these terms to its guest: “kind of moron”, “you are a stupid”, ” Tocard, go “,” Bouffon, go “or” You are a shit “.
These five statements were pointed out later by Louis Boyard. “It is the political subject that has been insulted”, because “in my capacity as a deputy, I pointed out the responsibility of (Vincent) Bolloré”, he insisted at the bar of the court, believing that there was had from the animator “a desire for censorship”. Cyril Hanouna had asked for his release for having “only responded to Mr. Boyard’s invective”.
The former TPMP columnist had triggered the ire of his presenter by evoking the “five richest people” in France who, according to him, “deplete Africa”, citing billionaire Vincent Bolloré, shareholder of companies in Africa and Owner of the Canal+group, parent company of C8. In retaliation for this rain of insults, he had filed a complaint with the constitution of civil party on November 23, 2022 against Cyril Hanouna.
More than thirty sanctions against C8
The C8 channel, which has accumulated 7.6 million euros in fines due to the host’s slippages, will cease to issue TNT on February 28 after the non -renewal of its frequency, confirmed Wednesday by the Council of ‘State. An unworthy decision considering the thirty fines, formal notice, and warned which the chain was received in more than ten years, reports the Huffpost.
Seized on this sequence of ten minutes, Arcom, the audiovisual regulator, therefore without surprise again sanctioned C8, by asking for a record fine of 3.5 million euros. The regulatory agency had considered that these remarks brought “infringement of the rights of the guest, respect for its honor and reputation”, adding that this sequence reflected “an ignorance by the publisher of its obligation to control its antenna”.
Despite his victory, Louis Boyard has enough to be disappointed. While at the start of the trial, the deputy had claimed 10,000 euros in damages, Cyril Hanouna ultimately only deals with a fine of 4,000 euros. A rather derisory sum considering the record amount that the previous one had reached. Especially since it will not be donated to damages to Louis Boyard, but in the general state budget. And given the personal fortune of Cyril Hanouna, estimated between 50 and 100 million euros, the fine is a drop of water. The fact remains that the deputy may argue that the host was sentenced by justice and that despite the millions, his criminal record is no longer a virgin.
