A 22-year-old man is acquitted of attempted murder after a shooting at a hotel in Linköping last November, where a 17-year-old boy was hit in the head.

The injuries were life-threatening – the bullet lodged in the neck – but the boy survived. In the first interrogations, the boy claimed that he accidentally shot himself. Later, he instead pointed out the 22-year-old as the one who fired the shot, which was also the prosecutor’s line. But the Linköping District Court considers that the evidence for this claim is not sufficient.

“In this case, it is not possible to rule out other alternative explanations for the incident and the plaintiff’s injuries than those that the prosecutor has claimed. It is therefore not beyond reasonable doubt that the accused man handled and fired the weapon in the way that the prosecutor has claimed,” says attorney Charlotta Riberdahl in a press release.
