“‘Boy from Heaven’ is an impressive artistic achievement, both in form and content; a thriller about faith, corruption and politics that combines current affairs with timeless questions, and which is also well-acted in every supporting role,” writes the jury in its justification .

The prize has been awarded since 1961 and was renamed in 2000 to the Greta prize, named after Greta Garbo.

Director Tarik Saleh says he has a complicated relationship with film criticism and is therefore extra proud of the award.

“Rarely do you get to feel joy, when you get good criticism it’s rather a feeling of relief. But to be selected as the year’s best Swedish film by experts who see everything. Then it’s not with a feeling of relief but pure joy and pride . When I think of the big names who created films this year, it feels like a dream,” he says in a press release.
