The 37-year-old Ukrainian dominated and set the pace in the superfight and was awarded the win by a unanimous panel of judges with the numbers 116-112.
– He is a fantastic fighter. A fantastic performance, Usyk said of 36-year-old Tyson Fury, after defeating him for the second time in a row.
Thus, Usyk has defended and retains his WBA, WBO and WBC belts.
Also in May, Usyk was victorious against Fury after twelve rounds, then after a unanimous decision. Usyk was the first to beat Fury and with the victory became the first undisputed heavyweight champion with all the belts in 24 years.
Crashed the interview
It is a title he later lost, when he did not take on challenger Daniel Dubois for the IBF belt. Usyk, who already defeated Dubois in 2023, chose instead to focus on giving Fury, 36, a chance for revenge.
– Incredible 24 rounds for my career, Usyk stated after the night’s win.
Now Dubois seeks his revenge. After the night’s match in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyad, the Brit Usyks crashed the winner’s interview in the ring.
– I want to take my revenge, Dubois said after grabbing the microphone.
– Your Excellency, let me fight with Daniel, answered Usyk, not noticeably impressed by Dubois’ courage.
Zelenskyy: “So important”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offers his congratulations in a statement.
“Victory! So important and so necessary for all of us now,” Zelensky writes and continues:
“The ring, the battlefield or the diplomatic arena – we fight and we will not give up ours.”
Usyk is now 23-0 in matches, including 14 wins by knockout.
Corrected: In an earlier version, there was an incorrect description of Usyk’s championship title.
